I did something behind my husband’s back, but I’m not sorry.
Do you see this gorgeous picture of this gorgeous fish? If you look closely, you’ll see some fine print on the lower left hand corner with the caption that reads, “North Fork Cutthroat — when beauty’s on the line”. Underneath that, you’ll see the name of the photographer. Except he’s not really a photographer (as in professional, or even amateur). He’s a great guy who happens to love fishing, taking pictures of fish, remembering the stories that go along with them, and who also happens to be my husband.
When I came across MFCU’s photo contest, I decided to send in this one he took a few years ago. My picture of a picture doesn’t do it justice, but the colors are pretty cool, and so is the fact that you can clearly see the Adams dry fly by the fish’s mouth. Well, it ended up being one of the winners and is now featured in their Montana Icons calendar.
Call me a rebel wife, but I’m a repeat offender when it comes to sneaking behind the hubs’ back for the sake of surprising him. This is actually the second time a picture of his (that I submitted) has won a prize in some random photo contest. I also like to do things like secretly email his co-workers in order to get more details on whatever conversations they might have had on the latest hunting gizmos so that I can order very specific Christmas presents for him with confidence.
All this to say, isn’t that a great fish picture? Sure, I’ll take some of the credit for entering it in the contest and coming up with a good caption. But seriously, the real honor is having the chance to share my man’s clandestine talents. He’s always pleasantly surprised, and it’s a way that I can show him I care—that he makes me proud; so I don’t think I’ll quit sneaking around any time soon. Sorry, not sorry.
