I’ve been wearing the Kuiu Women’s Super Down ULTRA Jacket for a few months now and it has seriously become the only jacket I’ve wanted to wear this winter. Admittedly, I was going to opt for a cheaper replacement when my Patagonia jacket bit the dust; but my husband, a Kuiu devotee, ordered the Super Down for me against my budget-minded will. It turned out to be a great move on his part.
WHAT I LOVE
Besides the fact that the Super Down ULTRA is super comfortable, I love that it also
-
- is extremely lightweight (6.8 oz.)
- can be ordered with or without a hood
- has athletic fit and feel (hood and hem are adjustable)
- is water-resistant
- comes with a lifetime warranty
- is available in either phantom (charcoal black)/plum, or olive
- has a pocket that doubles as a stuff sack
- features technologically advanced outer shell fabric and double-baffle down filling structure that provides amazing insulation
WHAT I DON’T LOVE
-
- It’s pricey (I know—high-quality doesn’t usually come cheap)
- It’s too loud for hunting
KUIU SIZING
This jacket fits true to size for me. I usually feel that most brands’ XS is not truly EXTRA small. Keep in mind that I am very extra small myself, so this is all relative; but Kuiu gets brownie points in my book for accommodating us tiny people (for reference, I weigh 90 lbs. and am 5’0″ tall).
BOTTOM LINE
Even though I was a little disappointed in the noise factor, the Kuiu Women’s Super Down ULTRA Jacket has proven itself to be worth the cost. It may be less noisy if I figure out something to wear over it that’s fairly tight and eliminates the swishing sound. For now, I like that it scrunches down super small and weighs next to nothing in my hunting pack as a warm back-up layer. I also like that it’s stylish enough for everyday use and versatile enough for winter sports, like skiing. I have a feeling this jacket will be going on more adventures with me in the future.
